Due to a sudden recent loss of members with President Phil Whittaker moving back to the North and the sad demise of Lion Marilyn Rolfe, it was decided that the club could not carry on without a major, highly unlikely, influx of new members. Regretfully, the club will therefore cease supporting the local communities from the end of June 2024.
After 25 years it was a sad decision to make, but it was apparent we could no longer manage the various things we did to support our communities, especially the bigger events such as the Christmas Fayre and Santa's sleigh rides around the villages. As I write we are in discussions about the future of the Christmas Fayre, and hopefully this will continue under new management. No doubt when this occurs there will be an announcement.
The club members are very proud of what we have achieved over the years: organising such events as the Christmas Fayre, getting involved in other events in the village, as well as providing support to organisations and individuals throughout our area. In recognition of their part in our work over many years, the club have awarded Melvin Jones Fellowships (the highest honour a Lions club can give) to four members: current President Phil Whittaker, founder members and past Presidents John Edwards and John Shephard, and past President Caroline Shephard.
All have given many years of sterling service to the club in various capacities.
